Jan Huffaker's time with us was way too short. I only was introduced to her in 2005 when I joined NAPgA. Just 4 short years later we were essentially saying good-bye to her at our yearly Rendezvous in the South Warner Wilderness. Thomas Paine famously said that, "These are the times that try men's souls..." and I am afraid that her passing is trying mine. That one so young and full of vibrant life should be called home so soon is inexplicable. But called she was and although she resisted as much as she was able, the destroyer cancer prevailed in the end. It would be a terrible mistake to not note here that when it was obvious that she was nearing the end of her time here on earth, Vicky Jordan gave Jan the trip of her dreams, and allowed her to see places that she had wanted to visit but had never been able to. NAPgA salutes and gives a heartfelt thanks to Vicky for her kindness and consideration to Jan at the end of her life.
Blessings Jan... our existence is poorer to not have you in it. Larry Robinson |

My heartfelt thoughts to all you who knew Jan. I bought two goats from her about 4 years ago, and they are the sweetest, gentle giants, reflecting what a warm upbringing they must have had with Jan. She must have been a dear, dear friend to all of you. Jewel Dirks

Waterfall above camp. NAPgA Rendezvous, CA, 2009. One of Jan's good days
|

Jan was bent on hiking to the bottom of Crater Lake trail and taking the boat tour. The hike back out was definitely one step at a time, but she made it over a mile "straight up" out of the caldera. That girl had willpower. She only lived 3 months after this photo.

Before the 2009 Rendezvous, Jan had an emergency surgery. She told the doctor, "I'm going to California in June. Patch me up enough to make it, because I'm going." He did, and she did!
